PS4 the next step for Gran Turismo?

If you were hoping for one last, genuinely new flourish for Polyphony’s racing sim series on the PlayStation 3 you might be in for a disappointment.

Whilst at the China Joy Entertainment Expo, Mr GT himself - designer Kazunori Yamauchi - commented that the studio is "always aiming for the latest technology and the latest expression" (as reported in translation by Andriasang).

Hardly a cast iron denouncement that the possibility of a new game might appear on Sony’s present home console hardware, but it hints that Polyphony, a studio with a reputation for pushing the graphics envelope, may be looking beyond to the next generation.

There may still be a healthy lifespan to GT5 though, with the idea of mods being something he is open to, “If we can find a good balance, we'd like to increase the areas where users can make modifications”.

The subject of a possible Vita entry for the series was also broached, and once again highlighted the importance of hardware capabilities in his plans, Yamauchi said “"If we were to make it, we'd like to make use of the ability to play anywhere and the ability to use 3G at any time."
