Sony to launch new console in the UK on the 29th of November

At its pre-Gamescon press conference yesterday, Sony announced that the PS4 will be released on the 15th of November in North America and on the 29th of November in Europe, Latin America and Australia. Unlike Microsoft’s XBox One, Sony’s next-gen console will be available in a total of 32 countries, just in time for the peak Christmas holiday period. As previously announced, the PS4 will cost £349 in the UK, $399 in the US and €399 in the rest of Europe.

Anticipation has been building since the new console was officially announced last June and Sony Computer Entertainment President and Group CEO Andrew House revealed at the press conference that the company has received 100 million pre-orders worldwide. Prior to announcing the PS4‘s release dates, House couldn’t resist a quick swipe at the competition when he informed his audience that whilst "others have shifted their message and changed their story, Sony has remained consistent." Microsoft have of course announced a series of u-turns when it comes to their next-gen console over the last couple of months.

Whilst the PS4 will obviously get all the headlines, Sony had plenty of other news at the press conference, with further announcements regarding PlayStation Plus, Remote Play and the PS Vita. Everyone who buys a PS4 will get a 14-day free trial of PlayStation Plus and there will be plenty of special offers for PS3 owners as well. In addition, Remote Play from PS4 to PS Vita will be available for almost every game and the PS4's DualShock 4 controller will also come in red and blue. Sony also announced a drop in the price of the PS Vita, which was widely anticipated.

In a very interesting move, Sony also announced that it's partnering with Virgin Media for broadband in the U.K. which might not only should result in exclusive deals for PS4 owners but also might be the start of Sony providing a 4K download service in the UK.
