To me that says it all about sony they are introducing a service which is identical to microsofts, yet before this announcement they were making wide reaching announcements that there service was going to be better and more refined than Microsofts. As with all companies they are blowing steam out of their behinds in order to simply try and look better.
Not you again !
Well, yes no extras indeed...
No subscription fees.
No in game shop.
No PSP connectivity.
No video chat.
No region frees games.
No single SKU disks for all regions.
No PS1 games to download.
No HDD with every system.
It all was a figment of our imagination. Thank you for pointing it out to us all.
God, SONY do **** me off
Why? The original post is incorrect. There WILL be extras.
As long as the do their own thing and don't copy what Microsoft has achieved with LIVE then i am not bothered
Microsoft have only just announced plans to let gaming companies run their own servers on Live in response to Sony saying that they will do it.
Who copies who?
Does it matter?
Can the 360 fan bois leave this forum?
find out by November.
Is that supposed to be a list of extras above Live? Well, I'll give you the no subs bit, but the rest are not online extras.
No subscription fees. OK, fair enough.
No in game shop. What's marketplace?
No PSP connectivity. Well duh!
No video chat. Video chat is due for launch imminently.
No region frees games. Not none, just not all. And what's that got to do with online? Nothing.
No single SKU disks for all regions. Don't understand.
No PS1 games to download. No, just Xbox Live Arcade.
No HDD with every system. No, but you can buy one. Invalid point again.
Stop buying into the hype. The Sony service will be very closely modelled on Xbox Live, make no mistake, except without the 4 years of experience. You get what you pay for in my experience.
Xbox live is superb. Sony copying it would only be a good thing in my opinion. If it aint broke don't fix it.
sorry, but its kinda obvious sony would copy XBL, considering sony now have one of the people who worked on the orginal live, working on the PS3 online plan.
I wonder if Sony are planning to offer a worldwide online service as opposed to Xbox Lives 26 countries? That would start to get my interest.
Hah, this thread so predictable, same old same old.
So xbox Live is good apparantly (I've never used it, don't have the time), and Sony basing their system on this would be a bad thing??
I smell boys of the fan variety being the only ones whining about this.
well done that man!
I like Sony, and I am going to get a PS3, but some of the fans (not on this forum but)......
you know that guy in Dracula who kept eating the flies and said those who are faithful will be rewarded by the masssterrr.....
Well, not going to say it but the thought is in the air....
Have you actually read this thread? If you had, you'd realise no-one has said that Sony basing their system on Live would be a bad thing, merely that the Sony service will offer little above that of MS's service like Sony's hype machine would have you believe.
Some people are far too willing to trot out the 'fan-boy' label just to try and prove their point.
Sadly those incapable of discussion just shout "fanboy" and run off in the other direction .
I personally think it's good that Sony are copying Live and I just hope they can do half as good a job. Live is a great system which nas evolved over the last 5 years or so into what we have now. Sony's PS2-Online service need to do a fair bit of evolving to reach the level that Live has set but at least they are moving in the right direction.
I would actually like to see a unified online system between the consoles & PC so that Playstation, XBox, PC and Revo owners can play online together. They've proved that this can be done with the likes of FFXI. A unified service would really bring the online gaming world together as let's face it that would surely be more fun than this petty "my console's better than yours so nerr" discussions .
There are plenty of 360 fanboys in this forum, and they attack every new press release with the same old arguments :
MS have already done it
Why bother with a PS3 as MS have already done it
Sony are only copying the 360 so why bother with a PS£ as MS have already done it.
So some people arent happy with a system that isnt out yet (why arent they playing the system they already have and discussing the good points of that, surely that would be better for everyones heart rates?), they have to tell us?
I repeat, there isn't criticism here of Sony copying the MS strategy where it has worked so well: online. What people are criticising is the Sony press releases claiming ficticious 'extras'. The Sony hype machine is winding up now, and it seems that anyone daring to point out obvious flaws will forever be labelled a fanboy.
I have owned every Sony console to date (yes all three of them) and see no reason why the PS3 should be different. What I do object to is people latching on to marketing speak and claiming it as fact.
Run off? Can't be here 24/7 fella, and I wasn't accusing anyone who hadn't said anything wrong.
However, the same person in most of these threads, who just rants about the 360 and the evilness of Sony (not you Baldy mate ) has barked off again with another pointless foul one liner. Not difficult to miss la.
So incapable, and yet so capable at the same time. I can pat my tummy and rub my head simultaneaously now too. :**************)
Well just rise above it, if that's all they have to contribute then is it really worth anyone's attention? As the old saying goes "2 wrongs don't make a right" and surely we've all had enough of reading threads where the most used word is Fanboy.
Fair dos, you're right.
Might have another attempt at setting up Live in teh coming days, as I have another xbox premium arriving next week (i have had a core, sold it, and a premium, then sold that. Neither were bought to sell ***!), as there are now games i am interested in.
From owning an xbox1 last winter, I have had far too much disposable income and now will own a DS, PSP, PS2 and the 360, as of next week. I'm such a big kid. /o\
Only way to go although you should really have a Cube in your collection aswell, no excuse not to with the price you can pick one up for these days.
I'll never use the 360, or the PS2 (except for PES). Rarely use the DS right now, as i've finished Trauma Center. I just like having them around.
Please don't tell me what I should believe in or not believe in.
If you have a chip on your shoulder about past Sony promises, then that's your probelm - not mine.
The word from inside Sony is that they intend to match Live - and then some.
Time will tell.
Is it just me that read the following part:
Live doesn't have subscription fees for silver members, I suspect they will charge for gaming online this time. They'd be crazy not to.
Sorry, Bishman, I did not see that bit! If you think about it then it's better that way, as Sony will have to take some responsibility for providing a better service.
And Mickus I'm not telling you what to believe in at all, just trying to limit your expectations so you won't be dissappointed come Nov 11th.
I agree that's kinda what I was getting at when I said they'd be crazy not to charge. As much as I can't seem them coming out with something that even equals live at launch I'd love it if they did. As a gamer, the more options I have the better.
What Sony are very good at is managing and manipulating the press.
What they tend to do is make announcements 3-4 months before they release solid facts. This way the initial annoucements gets treated as fact and when the proper annoucement comes with the hard facts which are a subset of the initial annoucment it gets lost in the melee.
Hit the consumer with the big positives that the PS3 has, its got backwards compatibility, its got blue-ray, its got a online service that will be better than live and offer more functionality (dont offer details yet) and it will be more powerfull than the 360. Drill these good positive features into the public psyche and then slowly over time cut it back to what it really is (still and kick ass piece of kit, but not quite the all singing and dancing machine they said it would be) and at the last moment release the price and by then people wont care what it costs.
I think Sony will easily be able to replicate Xbox Live over time. I've got two games now - Socom/Syphon Filter for PSP which both work perfectly online including voice chat which is remarkable for a handheld machine.
But in all honesty, I've been playing online with the PS2 since 2002, I've never seen Live - so it's a case of what I haven't seen, I won't miss.
If Sony only introduce a single username, friends lists & voice chat, my clan & myself would be more than happy. Anything else would be a bonus.
PS3 copying Xbox Live? Maybe, but MS are already looking at ways to "catch up" with Sony's offering.
Odd how the guy says HD-DVD's strength is its backwards compatability with DVD! Um, blu-ray players also play DVD's...
The last line is interesting too:
We can "continue to add components over time", firmware add ons? Or hardware add ons? I assume the Xbox360 has some kind of updateable firmware to enable updates to the music player, etc? or is it only hard drive owners that can take advantage of these updates?
Separate names with a comma.
