    Hi all,

So there I was last night on the internet via the PS3. All was fine until it flashed up saying that a virus had infected my system and that my data would be affected. I of course panicked, closed the browser down and since then I have been turning it on and off infrequently to see if there are signs of problems of which, so far, there are not.

Has any one else come across any thing similar and if so what did you do?

If not any advice would be great.

    Cheers.

What message came up exactly? Was it a web page or a system notification? It could have been one of those websites where they try and get you to buy their "anti-virus" program by lying to you.

A virus would have to be specificially written for the PS3 (since most are targeted at MS Windows).

It was a system notification and I'm sorry but I can't remember the exact message.

My Money is on this just being one of those annoying web popups "You have a virus, click here to scan" (then buy our software)

It's nothing to worry about, it is not currently (and nor is it ever likely to be) possible to get a virus on your PS3. It's just a web scam thing, if you'd been on a Windows PC it would have come up in a Windows dialog box, it's just a javascript command.

It may be worth checking the history on the web browser to see if the error message was a web page or not (if that makes sense).

The message itself was most likely a javascript command and not an individual popup and so will not show up in the history however if you were to go back to the page it occured on you should see it again.
