The first few posts on that link are quite funny tho' :rotfl:

The proof will be in the pudding! :D Will they and how many? same goes for 360 of course, but then I don't expect either console to have a massive effect, particularly as the Wii is out selling the PS3 at least 4:1

But the Wii don't play HD.

87% is a massive amount of BD sales. If true. Now if they all only bought from amazon.

I don't think many PS3 owners will think it's such a big issue, if they want a DVD they'll just buy the better quality Blu-Ray version, no big dilemas of whether to go high def or not.

Talking about something for the family (kiddies)

The Wii is only half of the price compared to a PS3 so that's no news

Also Sony are having supply problems, they are selling every PS3 they make. If they could make 4 times the number of PS3's, they would still sell every one and it would be 1:1 with the Wii. :D

Although by the same thinking the Wii's are selling out as soon as they hit the shops also, so if Nintendo could make more they would sell more also...

So where are these mythical sales then?

Cos since it's US launch (weeks ago) there's precious little sign of these supposed thousands itching to buy Blu-ray movies (what with x-mas almost here etc etc).

Nevermind the propaganda, it's more than a bit strange that, don't you think?

there are not any sales figures floating about, only the dvdwars pages, and thats not entirely accurate, the google search at the bottom is fudged in hdddvd favour, the old version had an option to change bluray to blu ray or blu-ray, which altereted the result...i would like to see PROPER sales figures

:rotfl: :rotfl: Out of under 500 people polled on a ps3forum lol, come of it mate i bet that amounts to 500 discs if that lol. I have no doubt there will be a percentage who may buy movies now and then for there ps3s but it wont be to the level of say a standalone player of even the hddvd addon for 360. I mean i remeber people saying how good umd was going to take off because of all those playstation forum poles asking if they planed to buy a umd movie.:D

To Sony that doesn't matter, it's still a sold console. Even if Sony sells 3 mil consoles, I bet more than half of it belongs to an owner who actually does something with it

True but i was pointing at the price £1000 so blurry player was still expensive :)

I still think ps3 will be used mainly for games and same goes for xbox 360 but atleast with hd-dvd addon 100% of the time it is used for movie viewing but with ps3 there is no way to track this accurate.

I have posted this before...my brother and my best mate have a HD DVD drive. I know I got them for them. One has a 21" Trinitron CRT [24"] and the other a 21" Sanyo TV, that doesn't even have a SCART plug! Yep, they are two people who definately bought a HD DVD add-on for those movies!

Re PS3 and movie playing - well I will improve the average for another 7 owners, just ordered 8 movies from Movietyme. [plus 3 HD DVD titles!] This is the principle reason for me for owning a PS3. Again, I have said it before I consider the PS3 as a Blu ray player that comes with a free console [and excellent one btw, and PC!].

I feel I have the best of both worlds now, i.e. HD DVD add-on [2], plus the PS3. Both entirely purchased for movie playing and I doubt I am the only one.

Who can actually buy one for themselves?

I actually got my PS3 off ebay for £450 for the 60 GB version - if anyone is interested the guy has 3 more at the same price.

500 owners is a statistically relevent numbers.

There is a significant difference between UMD and Blu-ray, with UMD you paid more to get a lower quality version of a film. It was far cheaper to download a ripped DVD via peer to peer.
With BR you get a much higher quality for the same price as DVD and its not practical/possible to get it via any other means.

All im saying is its a ps3forum for god sake ie it will be filled with fans of sony, i bet on a xbox forum if you did a poll with 500 people asking if they where going to buy a ps3 you would get simliar results. Tbh this whole hd br thing wont even be close to being finished for a few years yet if ever and meaningless polls on forums dedicated to one platform isnt going to tip joe blogs scale onto either.

LOL. All the Sony haters have signed up to the site so they can vote against BR. *Hundreds* of new votes against getting BR in one day

    From this
    YES 331 87.34%
    NO 48 12.66%
    to this
    Yes 369 63.29%
    NO 214 36.71%

In less that 24hours. 150 'PS3 owners' suddenly decided that the at was vitally urgent to show they didn't want to use what they had paid for. Sure..

Notice not one of them bother to post why they were adamant about not buy BR, only post in the last 24hours were people list their purchases.

Of course another point that makes the survey inacccurate is that people are far more llikely to vote to say they will do something, than they are to vote to say they will not.. :D

Unlike the 360, the PS3 will benefit not only from movie fans buying up many titles (likely to be less than 10% of total owners of PS3 and 360), but also those who will purchase the occasional disc.
