I wouldn't be surprised of a 2007 Europe launch at all.

Do you think that they'll have the same "short supply" of PS3's that they did with the PS2?! ;)

ps3 wont lose to 360, but the 360 will get a larger market share due to the headstart. Personally I reckon this is ok as it will provide decent competition for sony. Competition often results in better games and more innovation.

Doubtful IMO - Sony are unlikely to Microsoft an 18month head start.

If it was delayed until 2007 Sony would have to hike up the performance, a 2x increase in power over the 360 isn't enough to make people buy both.

Thanks for the link. A very interesting read. I can’t see it opening in the US but see no reason why that wouldn’t be the case in Europe.

Either way, I’m not bothered, the X360 will keep me busy until then!

I personally think that a 2007 western release looks the most likely. That would suit me as well as it would leave a good 18 months between buying each console. I also think that MS will at worst close the gap to Sony significantly and more likely take the No 1 spot from them. If they are to take the number 1 spot then they will have to market and price the 360 aggressively but I believe that they can do it...Time will tell I guess!

If it is 2007 then perhaps Sony are going to rely on their Far Eastern following. Microsoft can then do what Sony did with the PS2, get top dollar for eighteen months for their console and as soon as the PS3 is launched slash the selling price.

That would be a big mistake, though of course it is all speculation as is so much we read on these new consoles nowadays.

Ok, if anyone misses a PS3 at launch, who's gonna be stupid enough to buy one for around a grand?? To find out there is somthing wrong with the first batch, and have to still wait to get another ?? ;)

Seriously, I will be buying a Xbox 360 and a PS3 possibly a revolution. However I will not buy one of any of the above out of the first batch I'll get one out of the second or third so hopefully any probs they might have with them will be fixed, upgraded by the time I get one

I'll probably buy them both. I think microsoft will steal the lead to be honest even if the PS3 manages a release next year. I don't think the general public will appreciate any significant technical improvement the PS3 may have over the 360. The 360 will be enough to capture the next generation ideal in the public's mindset , the PS3 will be seen as expensive and unecessary by everyone but the seasoned gamer and even they (we) will only buy it if it has a killer title of some sort.

Most people won't ever use the hidef output on these consoles and unless you are going hidef I doubt you'll even appreciate any improvement the PS3 might offer.

The Revolution is going to be the last console Nintendo ever produce . I'm still not entirely convinced it will even materialise.

I agree with most of the things that have already being said such as if the PS3 is delayed then the 360 will sell by the bucket loads but at a premium until the PS3 is released. The first batch of the PS3's will be hard to come by and will probably have something wrong with them (just look at how many versions of the PS2 there are). And most people in this country aren't too bothered with hi-def because they don't know what it is. [broad brush generalisation on] Most people that have consoles are teenagers/kids who have it hooked up to their 14" portable TV in their bedroom! [broad brush generalisation off] :rotfl:

Personally, I don't know if I will be buying either console because I'm not generally intersted in consoles and the only reason I have a PS2 is because I won it many moons ago! However, I couldn't help but notice the lack of definition in some of the games that I do actually get around to playing. Everything looks a little blurry so hi-def games on a capable console would look awesome!

BUT, either console would be a great way to get a hi-def player. The problem with the PS2 and it's DVD player strategy (apart from it being 'carp') was DVD was quite an established format at the time. People were making the transition from VHS to DVD which meant you could pick up "cheap", good quality DVD players too. When the 360 and PS3 are released I doubt there will be that many HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players on the market and if there are then at what price?

Sorry for going a little off topic  but that's my 2 pence worth. :)

I don't think its been confirmed that the 360 will have an HD-DVD drive . i thought the reverse was true and it was going to be a a standard dvd drive.

Again I don't think the hidef capabilities of the PS3 will matter to 90% of the punters out there . All they will see is the price tag.

This may just be reason to defect to XBOX over my sony PS2 :smashin:

Currently I only have PS2, for those with both, which console do they prefer?

The Xbox here. My PS2 saw little action other than GTA3 when the Xbox arrived. I eventually gave the PS2 to my nephews for Christmas (much better present than they got off their excuse for a father)

Xbox Live is so slick...I don't think I've ever setup anything that was so hassle free and works so well.

Didn't someone post a news story on here saying that MS had confirmed they would be using HD DVD drives at a later date and would be offering an upgrade to people who had already bought their 360's with the standard DVD drive?

If the PS3 release is true then I think MS will have the next gen battle in the bag this time around....18 months is a LONG time for the 360 to be available with no competition around and as soon as the PS3 is released the price will drop tempting all those who had not yet commited to the 360 to buy it in favour of a new higher priced console!

why are the public going to be paying at least £400-£500 for a ps3 when 360s will be £300-£350 and which will also have the price chopped a little betime the ps3 is released to counter the ps3.

not gonna happen, and any ps3 fanboys that read that and disagree you can kiss my hairy a** :p

and also not forgetting the revolution which is going to be about £250 i imagine "as nintendo say it will be much lower priced than the other 2"

no way on earth is the x360 going to be £350 over here. Walmart have already claimed that the x360 will retail at $299 over the pond, which equates to around £160. A price point in Europe of £199 is therefore most likely.

The maximum price of the x360 will be £249.

    We will see eh? ;)

IMO the best way for MS to get a headstart on Sony would be to price at £200.

Every major console release from Sony has followed this pattern:

    START: Jap---->few months---->USA----->many more months----->Europe

Its going to be 2007 for a official release. Lets deal with it together.

Look on the plus side, hopefully all the HD DVD Laser issues should be fixed by then

But given the exchange rate is nearly 2:1, imaginethe outcry if that were the case. If it is $300 in the US then it will most likely be £250 here. But I suppose we'll find out next week in Leipzig.
