PS3 Media Server No Renderers were Found

I'm trying to connect up my PS3 and Win Vista laptop for the first time.

I've connected the PS3 to the wifi router/modem via Ethernet and the laptop is connected to the modem via wifi.

When I start PS3 Media Server I get a big red cross and the message No Renderers were Found.

I've never connected to the internet or a network with ps3 and I'm not sure how to do that.

My main aim is to play mkv on the ps3 without having to convert them.

Should I connect the laptop to the modem with a cable?

Any ideas?

First off you are going to struggle probably to play mkv's back via wireless, doesn't matter if your PS3 is wired, your source (the laptop) isn't.

Secondly, can you actually see PS3 MS on your PS3 ? Mine sometimes says the same thing, but it does pop up and I can use it...

Hard-wiring the laptop is probably a good way to go...

I read that as No Reindeers found... must be xmas time.

As Axum said - if not appearing check in the settings (in network settings i think) and ensure Media server or whatever its called is switch on and not off
