PS3 Media Server and .m4v video files?

Hi there

I've got some video files with extension .m4v that arent supported by my ps3 when accessing them via ps3 media server. In the notes for info for the video files it says renaming them to .mp4 from .m4v will work on the ps3, but when I do this I end up with a filename with extension .mp4.m4v and they are still not recognisable by ps3.

Also, the video files come with 2 different audio tracks a dolby 5.1 and a dolby pro-logic; how do i select the dolby 5.1 from within the ps3?

Firstly, you obviously have the setting on your PC which hides known filenames. When using My Computer, go to Tools > Folder Options > View tab > make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked.

After that, try renaming the file and see what happens.

Thanks I've unhidden the file extension and renamed to .mp4 I'll see if that works. Do you happen to know how to select audio tracks on ps3?

Press select and go to audio.....but I doubt that will work, so you'd actually have to remove the track you don't want from the file before you stream, or there may be an option for something similar within PS3MS.

The PS3 supports M4V files natively and AC3 5.1 audio in M4V, if you use Serviio instead of PMS you wont have to do anything they just work. Just be sure to apply the PS3 profile to the PS3 IP address in the control panel this tells it when to convert and when not too.

What I don't get is why PS3MS is trying to do something to them (presumably it is otherwise they would play) when he's not (assuming he's not) going via one of the #transcode# folders....where's M4V on this list ?
