I've been playing on my PS3 for the last few weeks, yesterday I came to play my xbox360 (via VGA) and I noticed how much more vived and colourful it was compared to the ps3, the ps3 looks pale and washed out.
i believe its down to a contrast/brightness issue with the hdmi outpu, its been mentioned on here before. there seems to be a bit of a bug where black isnt really black, but more grey. to compensate i've jsut had to lower the brightness another 7 steps or so and it's all fine again. its a good job i can have separate settings for each input.
i'd imagine a software update is all thats needed.
Well I've not done a direct game to game comparrison like that simply because (1) it is pointless buying the same gae on two different machines, and (2) generaly one will look better than the other because of the game being ported rather than written specifically for that machine. Looking at lead platform games or exclusives is a far better indicator of the quality of the output on the machine.
I use a Pioneer Plasma via HDMI for the PS3 and I have to agree the PS3 colors are not as vibrant as the xbox360. Unfortunalty for me I cant do anything about it as both consoles run via an AV amp. If I changed the brightness etc it would then impact the colors for the xbox360 and SkyHD. Lets hope sony release a small update to address this issue.

Someone correct me If I`m wrong but as far as I`m aware the PS3 uses RGB colour space via hdmi for games which means the picture is far brighter than component colour space what the 360 uses. I have to drop my brightness -20 compared to my 360 settings, which I don`t mind to be honest as I tend to find the 360 image a little to dark on some games for my liking.
If you look in Bluray/dvd settings you will find it gives you the option to alter the colour space for movie playback ( HDMI can do RGB and Component colour space) component is default which it should be. No option to alter it for games though.

that may not be a ps3 issue.
my ps3 is perfectly fine for blacks when watching dvd, web browsing or playing games.
tbh i think its probably the tv has seperate calibrations for hdmi and component and some people just havent adjusted them.
just to reiterate i have no problems with an overly bright picture on my tv from hdmi for sky hd or ps3, and i dont have it for component on my 360, wii or sky hd.
only problem i run into is 360 looks washed out and grey with the official vga cable which is why i never use it
id agree with tvr and psi, ps3 looks tonnes better on HI DEF movies and games compared to 360, and im not ps3 fanboy i only wanted it for blu-ray as theres sod all out there on the 360 hd-dvd front (and they dont have casino royal)

You can also set YCbCr since Firmware 1.3 for HDMI, I believe it's both for games and BD playback, but I could be wrong on that, I can't remember what menu setting it was under.
hi, 'nothin better to do, so i ran a test, 360 on component vs ps3 on hdmi, as i have 2 copies of nba home court...
The 360 is definately very slightly brighter and the colours just that fraction more vivid, im running a 37inch tosh wlt58, the ps3 is using a high end hdmi, the 360, a genuine m/s component cable...
I have been playing my ps3 through HDMI and ots soooo clear, i go to play my 360 and i see how superior the ps3 actually is - and its only just launched, the games will be top notch in 2 or 3 months time.
yeah i know the score on digital leads and quality, just wanted to clear it up, incase someone said it was down to the lead as in a previous post...
i bought the lead from asda, it was a £40 phillips one that asda are reducing down to £12, bargain for well made branded lead...
just looked at 'fizzys link on comparisons, 360 seems to win hands down on all the titles shown but i reckon its gonna take some time for developers to get fully used to the ps3 and its capabilities, they have had a little longer with the 360 i guess...
and your not gonna be able to play Devil May Cry on a 360!!
I BELIVE IS ONLY ABOUT YOUR TV SET.I HAVE MY PS3 TROUGHT HDMI AND 360 TROUGHT COMPONENT ON MY SONY BRAVIA W2000 40.BOTH SET UP LOOK GREAT,CLEAR AND SHARP,MORE THAN HAPPY HERE
