    HI
First of all I do not know if this is in the correct thread and if it has been answered elsewhere, does anybody know if it is possible to get region free DVD playback from a UK PS3?

I know bluray is region locked and some that are region free, would like to know about dvds

Any help would be much appreciated

    Thanks

DVD's are region locked. UK/European PS3's will only play R2 PAL DVD's. It isn't possible to play other regions at the moment.

I am sure Datel will come out with a DVD Region X for the PS3 that will allow playback of other region DVDs but it might be some time.

    Hi
I have recently purchased a PS3 and it only plays DVDs from UK. Is it possible to change settings to multiregion.
    Thanks

Please try and do a search before starting a new thread. This has already been covered before in several previous threads. Merging threads.

Over a year later... still no progress I guess.

Just bought a DVD from Aus (region 4) as the series is not available over here. Will have to rip it to be able to view it, well done in aiding DVD piracy Sony!!

Why not just buy a DVD player region free?

I recently bought Early Edition from USA which is Region 1 and it wouldn't play on my PS3 but luckily I have a multi-region DVD player and it works great.

Cant believe this thread is still going

Well what I do know is copy the dvd to computer using magic dvd ripper, ouput as a single vob and stream/copy to the ps3 hd using Tversity, superb software, and voila region coding doesnt matter as the ps3 plays vob files and the picture quality on a 1080p screen is awesome

Sorry for grave-digging but this is the first thread Google turned up in my search so I thought I might as well avoid a new thread.

Is it still the case UK PS3s are irrevocably locked to R2? It seems a little odd, every DVD player I've owned has had special ways to disable region-locking.

Darn. I don't even want to do it for dodgy reasons, simply many DVDs don't appear to exist on regions except R1.

Using a PC makes the whole setup more clunky, the PS3 has a fairly nice DVD playback interface especially with the remote control. But that's a good point, a PC makes R1 DVDs playable. One could also rip their DVDs and stream between Win7 -> PS3 depending how strict they are about the legal side of things.

As long as you keep the original DVD then I don't think there's a legal issue. YMMV

I think there's also a few free PC utilities availalbe that can convert the DVDs into an AVI/Divx/Xvid files instead (saves having to stream the DVDs through DLNA all the time).
