PS3 Dimensions?

Looking to get a PS3 shortly (slim) and curious to know its dimensions so that I can think about where it is going to sit in my AV setup. I currently have an Xbox 360 and used to allowing that LOADS of ventilation room, is there as much need for that with a PS3?
Also, will a PS3 slim only stand up in a certain way? From the pictures I have seen then it looks as though it stands "facing" left with the underside facing right. Will it stand the other way? I currently have my Xbox stood up in a similar way but the PS3 will be facing the wall where I currently have it.

The dimensions of the PS3 Slim are: 290 X 65 X 290 mm (Width X Height X Length)

The dimensions of the PS3 "Fat" are: 324 X 98 X 274 mm (Width X Height X Length)

The Slim has not been designed to stand upright without an extra stand which I think costs about £15 more on Amazon.
