Having been disapointed with the jerkiness of slow panning shots when playing blu-ray films on my ps3 I tried changing the pure cinema setting on my pioneer 436sxe.I read on a pioneer plasma faq thread on here that the pure cinema advanced setting relates to 3:2 puldown ,which seems to be the cause of the jerkiness.Using the advanced setting seems to have almost cured it completely.

    Anyone else tried this?

Once the PS3 can output 24p (hopefully with a firmware upgrade) then it should look perfect on your Pio with the cinema setting :)

Just tried this on my 436 XDE and I'm still seeing the same amout of judder with Pure Cinema set to OFF, Standard or ADV (especially on the Ice Age 2 trailer on the Night at the Museum Blu-ray). On the AVforums page for the Pioneer plasma it states that ADV is not selectable for [email protected] which is what I thought the PS3 was outputting. Any of you guys that have seen a difference between these settings have any idea what I may be doing wrong?? Are your PS3s UK or American/Jap imports? As others have stated I'm looking forward to Sony allowing [email protected] in a future upgrade!!!

    Thanks all.

    I'm using a uk ps3 and I believe the ps3 outputs blu-rays at 1080i 60hz(could be wrong).

Getting back to the question of judder, to my eyes it seems to be less apparent when using pure cinema set to advanced. It's not perfect but like you say this should be cured when Sony implement 1080i/24fps.

Can anybody confirm Sony are going to release via firmware or is just speculation?

I think it's just speculation at the moment.

Thanks Tig, you may well be correct with the [email protected] I think that I will try connecting my PS3 to input 3 tonight (currently on input 4) and try switching between 75 and 100Hz to see if this changes anything.

You are correct, it is the 60Hz output and the fact that 24 (as in fps) is not divisible into this number.

I have tried pure cinema off and on advanced. Although it still does judder, it is far better.

If it makes you feel any better the 360 HDDVD is just the same
