PS3 Audio & Panny TH42PZ85B Optical question

Hi All.

I have a PS3 40Gig & A Panny TH42PZ85 & SKYHD + an acoustic solutions surround sound which has a built in amp in the sub woofer (to be upgraded, hopefully)

The Surround sound has 1 optical in & 1 Coaxial in.
The Sky HD box has optical & coaxial out.
the Panny has coaxial & Optical out.

This has confused the hell out of me as to how to set it all up. I currently have the Sky box outputting via Coaxial to the surround sound & the PS3 outputting via optical to the surround sound but I'm not sure if this is the best.

When I have Sky on then it's fairly good, especially in DD but a bit echoey. The PS3, connected via optical sounds good but no sound comes out of the TV at all, only the Surround sound! I have selected optical in the PS3 sound settings.
When I selected HDMI in the sound settings, & then tried to listen to the sound through the surround sound all I could hear was what was playing on sky!

I hope this is understandable...

Please someone advise me as to the best way of setting my system up.

Yep coaxial for Sky and optical for PS3.
If you've selected optical (PS3) then no sound will be output over HDMI i'm afraid.Or have i misread your question?

You must have overlooked something in ps3 menu to output sound via HDMI the sound though most kit unfortunately unless you have upmarket processor or like me highend kit it can sound bright & echoey I think 99.9 % of all tv or satellite sound is like this.

Why if you use surround do you want the tv to produce it ? if it's for gaming or films Id certainly not want to use the piddly speakers in any tv all the best

I think my main problem is the fact that i have a cheapo £99 6 yr old surround sound system.

Just can't afoort to upgrade just yet!

If i put the optical lead from the TV to the surround sound and then play the ps3, will it comethrough in 5.1?
