PS3 Audio Output Question

Distinguished Member
I have my PS3 connected to my amp (a JVC RX 701) via optical digital out - I would have loved to connect it via the HDMI connection but it seems this amp will not allow 1080p to pass through it!

Now this amp is capable of getting a multi digital input via HDMI (ie. my HD AX1 HD DVD player is connected via HDMI and I can get Dolby True HD to be processed by the player then sent straight to the amp via linear PCM) now my question is if I have my PS3 set to linear PCM via an optical output I guess I cannot get Dolby True HD as the this cannot be passed down a optical lead - it has to be a HDMI lead - is this correct?

Would I be better off setting the audio out on the PS3 to bitstream and let the amp decode or keep it as linear PCM and let the PS3 decode the audio??

if that makes sense to anyone your input would be appreciated! :smashin:

not sure but you could try asking this question in the Bluray forum as quite a few members there understand how the audio options on Hi Def players work.

Has the PS3 got 5.1 analogue audio out?
