I have a 60GIG PS3 brought on release day and used a few times for games and watched the odd movie on it.

I heard the 40GIG was quiter than the 60 ? Is this correct ?

Mine is quite until the fans kick in.

I was thinking of trying to swap mine for a 40 if thats the case.

I also have a 3 year warrantly with mine so should be able to swap with a new 40 I guess

I heard the opposite; that the 60GB version is generally quieter. Just depends on your actual machine I guess.

By the sounds of it you don't use the PS3 too often, so maybe 40gb is all you need as you may not need the extra hard drive space or the extra features the 60GB has, plus it'll save your some money. I just wouldn't expect it to be quieter though.

My 60 gig was quiet until the fans kicked in playing COD4 or assassins etc. My 40gig replacement is also quiet and the fans haven't kicked in once so far so I'd say it's quieter

Other than fan noise what are the differences between the 2?

I know 40gb doesn't have wireless, anything else that should worry us?

40 Gig is quieter.

When I go to my mates to play fifa08 on his 60gig the fan seems more of a distraction where my 40 gig is almost non existant, even on the quiet bits of the game

Unless this is just his own specific model but I have heard loads of people who have changed to a 40gig and noticed a difference. whether its worth replacing just for that...well thats down to you, personally the 40 gig does everything i want and is very quiet. Just my preference but I prefer the Matt silver look on the 40gig than the chrome look on the 60.

My 60gb was loud, as in the fans spinning pretty hard producing a 'woosh' sound. My 40gb does not spin the fans that fast but even at the lowest speed they make a distinct "rrrr" sound, which annoys me even more. Would swap my 40gb for a "loud" 60gb anytime now!

I thought that it didn't have the required hardware to play PS2 games? Surely if it was just software related they'd have included it as it wouldn't have benefited them at all leaving it out.

40GB's are definitely quieter, and seems cooler where the hot air comes out the vents...

I have the 60GB and my mate has the 40GB.
