Are Sony modding the console as they go? I read loads about poor DVD performance (green hue) but bought one for games anyway. Rented Gladiator last night and was far from dissapointed. Has it been tweaked?
Think you miss read the post. There is no apparent problem! So are Sony upgrading the consoles as they go?
Zog, By the 'Green Hue' do you mean the problem that people have experienced when using an RGB SCART to watch DVDs? I've had a PS2 since March, and like you, haven't had any problems watching DVDs on it (but I use a Component cable, not RGB). As far as I know, the PS2s haven't changed spec since they were released. Nigel.
All PS2 give a 'green' output when playting DVDs using an RGB cable. This is an intentional part of the design to stop you getting the benifits of RGB. When you look, at the DVD product range, you can see that RGB output is only available on the higher spec'd, more expensive models. I heard that Sony didn't want to give RGB output on what is a very basic DVD player, so they made it green. its not a bug, its intentional. If you don't use RGB, then you wouldn't know anything about this.
I don't use my PS2 for DVD playback for the most part as I have a dedicated player for that, but occasionally I bring the PS2 into the parents TV room (14 inch portable by the way) so they can watch a movie on DVD. (Wont watch films on my 32in widescreen and 5.1 system because....its too loud!....bloody old fogey's!!!). The problem is every DVD starts with Subtitles on for some reason. Is this a common problem or is there some presets I have to change on the PS2?
