Just got hold of a cheap PS2. I have an xbox already and connect it to my amp via toslink cable. I got a digital out cable for the PS2 but I dont seem to get any sound during games.....
I presume no PS2 games use the optical out connection and I will have to connect to my amp using phono plugs?? Or have I picked up a faulty PS2?

Have you checked the setting in the PS2 menu, If I recall you need to enable it ?

yer digital optical out is set to ON - but am I right in thinking this is only applicable when watching DVDs using the PS2 unit?
Bit dissapointed if none of the games are 5.1.....

I have mine hooked up with optical and get sound from the games although I understand the PS2 games are not fully 5.1. Have you tried your xbox cable?

There should be a red laser light from the port if the optical is set to on and working, quite easy to see in the dark.

Just to back up greg, my PS2 is connected to my amp via optical, works with all games as well so it's not only selected titles.
