    Hi all,

Was just fiddling around with my PS2 when I noticed in the setup that you can change the 'Texture Mapping' and 'Disc Speed' from 'Standard' to 'Smooth' or 'Fast' respectively.

Why is this feature there? Does this actually do anything? Should I be changing it around for different games/DVDs?

    Thanks in advance,

    Lex.

As I understand it, it's simply to optimise performance for playing PS1 games.

    Cheers.

So do I set the texture mapping to smooth and the disc speed to fast when playing PS1 games then?

    Lex.

No idea. That's just how I understand it. I could be wrong.

I'm sure it says something about it in the manual.

'texturing' setting smooths out some of the jaggies on some of the games. It makes no difference on 2D games at all and there are not many games that really benefit. Gran Turismo 2 is one that does spring to mind.
'disc speed' increase the disc speed of PSone games and should increase loading times. On some games I've known it to half the load times, but there are drawbacks as some games that have music or sound streaming from the disc struggle (a lot).

It's really a matter of trial and error, but worth messing around with.:)

Whatever you change it to, it always goes back the default when you reset/turn off.
