I'm having problems with booting up my PS2. When I insert a disc it now doesn't automatically boot. Instead it goes to the browser screen and I have to load the disc that way. Once it's loaded it's fine but I think there must be a problem with my disc reading lens or something? Is it possible to clean the lens or have I got some other problem?

I don't know if these things are connected but I also have a problem with discs occasionally not recognising that I have a controller in port one. I often get the message "please insert a controller in port 1" even when a controller is inserted. If I switch to an alternative controller it then works. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with these problems.

Try using a cd lense cleaning kit, from argos.
I had a bit of a loading problem once and it cured it.
Another cause could be the cd has finger marks on it.

Try wiggling your cable if you have connection errors, make sure it's home, or blow out any foreign objects in the end of the cable, simple but effective.

I had this problems as well. Ended up giving Sony a call, they'll provide you with a refurbished PS2 and take your old one away for a nominal fee.
