Guys - apologies if this is a simple one but I can't see any evidence in the archives. I have got a PS2 & recently went to MVC and bought their 'mega cable pack' which contains an RGB scart cable amongst the other bits.

I have my PS2 connected to the back of my sky+ box which in turn is connected to a dvd recorder, which is finally connected to the panny plasma all using RGB scart. All the components support RGB passthrough.

Problem is that when the plasma is set to composite mode, the picture colours are fine however when set to RGB everything is too red (using GT3 as an example) i.e. the whites are a purple colour and everything else is degree 'redder' than it should be.. :(

obviously its not a sony cable - is this likely to be the problem or is there some other cause?

    Please help!

    Cheers...

sorry for stating the obvious but try connecting your ps2 straight to your plasma, if it's still the same it's your cable, if it's crystal clear with perfect colour balance(as it should be) your problem lies elsewhere.
On another note don't you have to select RGB in the ps2's dashboard ??? (i'm not sure on this as i don't have a ps2)

Sorry - I should have mentioned that I can't do this as the plasma does not have a scart socket - I have a special RGB+sync to RGB scart cable made up (which obviously doesn't go into the PS2) so I have to go via my dvd recorder (or sky+ box) anyway.

I have just eliminated the sky+ box from the equation by removing it from the chain & I definitely know that the RGB passthru works fine on the DVD recorder... sooooo its either the cable or something wrong with PS2 or PS2 settings...

Has anyone had any problems with the RGB cable from MVC?

    Cheers

As far as i am aware only the official SONY cable works, I assume that you set console to RGB mode!

Quite a few companys do a RGB cable for the ps2, Blaze's ultimate scart being one of the best and can be bought for as little as £10.
I suspect it's the cable itself, this mega cable pack sounds a bit dodgy to me especially when you consider Sonys official RGB cable costs £35
I would take it back and go and purchase the Blaze cable, when i did own a ps2 this is what i had and it worked a treat on my old 36ZP18 :smoke:

I agree about the cable... I bought a cheap PS2 RGB cable (non-official) and it was absolutely lousy: pic quality was awful and I think it was also discoloured - I bought the Blaze cable and it was a thousand times better.

    yes - definitely...

Actually you're probably right about the cable - I got a so called RGB scart cable, optical cable and handcontrol extension cable in one pack for £12.99

And yes all my other cables are proper expensive ones, it was purely because no-one had a sony cable I opted for the 'el-cheapo' one.... it was one of those 'can't wait, won't wait' things :D

Ok - time to submit and buy a proper cable

    Cheers

Bought mine from www.gameplay.co.uk for about £12 last year.
It has audio phono outputs, anti-green screen, plus automatic screen switching :smashin:

I had a similar problem with a cheap PS2 scart lead.

I eventually tracked down the official cable for £30 and it made a big difference to the image quality.
IMHO the PS2 doesn't have as good an output quality as the DC or Xbox so don't go daft buying a Monster cable for it.

Remeber to check the settings on the console, make sure it isn't stuck on composite.

For reference I'm using the 3 systems mentioned above with a Loewe Aconda.
