PS2 optical cable?

I need an optical cable to plug my PS2 into my shiny new Logitech Z-5400 speakers that just arrived today :D

But I'm not sure which. At first I was going to order these from Amazon. There are some cheaper ones on ebay for like £3-5. Are they likely to be poor quality?

I'm a bit lost here.

I bought a cheapo optical from fleabay, for my ps2, and it sounds okay to me :). At the risk of incurring wrath i dont think a ps2 warrants an expensive cable.

I don't know of any PS2 games that actually support DD5.1, so optical quality isn't really an issue. Hold on, The Bouncer's cutscenes are in 5.1, but that's it.

I went for a cheapo fleabay one as well. You're probably right about the PS2. Speakers aren't uber-expensive super ones anyway.

No 5.1 games? Well that sucks. I thought they would be these days. Oh well.

No DD 5.1 games, but you can get Pro Logic 2 games, which (open to correction here) are 5.1 through a stereo signal. There are some games (Metal Gear Solid 2 and Gran Tourismo 4 spring to mind here) that offer 5.1 in cut scenes/intros etc. And IIRC,there are some games that offer DTS in game, although (and I am open to more correction here) not 5.1 but 4.0.

MGS 2 had cut scenes in 5.1, SSX Tricky had 4.1 (DTS), and many others in Stereo/Surround/PLII etc.

The optical cable should give you a better sound quality over analog.

I don't think the quality of an optical cable will impact sound quality, its basically sending light signals (either ON or OFF), so no amount of gold plated terminals or whatever will make a difference, maybe a poor optical cable could equal loss of light, but I presume this would make the cable totally redundant?

Any how I used a cheapo one from B&Q of all places and it worked perfectly.
