I've just received the email comfirming i've been accepted for the online trials. My broadband connection is upstairs, quite a distance from my downstairs TV where the PS2 sits. Whats going to be the best way of connecting this.
Would a long cable of about 20 metres be OK. Would it need to be a cross over cable? I'm also unsure how this will connect into the cable modem i have. Could my PC still be connected using the usb cable and the PS2 plugged into the ethernet socket on the modem? Any advise would be great as i'd like to get all the bits i need ASAP.

I was just thinking that the PS2 online network was taking along time to get up and running. How long do they think it will take to get it up and running for all?

I suspect that within a couple of weeks of the beta starting the kits will be made a available ala the xbox live trial. Remember that Xbox Live only went live last month. In the USA PS-2 online players far out number Xbox Live. Primarily because SOCOM is such a good game.

For testers the whole pack (including Network Adaptor, SOCOM, SOCOM USB headset, Network Disk, Ethernet cable) is £39.99 + £5 P&P

Price for general release - no idea!

Got my confirmation email today along with a link to go get the online gaming pack. Been trying for the past hour on and off to get in, gets so far and then dies, or comes back with an error. Anyone else trying ? I know when i signed up for the xbox beta it took a while to get through, but i didnt think this beta was as big and the servers could cope with it ... hmmmm ...

    You read my mind! :smashin:

It is iritating that i'll have to ditch my alcatel adsl modem. I've had it for a year now but only used it for six months. I was reading the playstation help guides about how to connect a pc and a playstation side by side without one inturupting the other. I guess this would be the most sensible option seeing as my ps2 is downstairs in my front room and the pc is upstairs in the spare room.
I'm quite surprised how cheap a solution it is. I don't know a great deal about networking but this seems very simple. No need for messy drilling or trying to run wires under carpets and such.

Yeah I have a Zyxel USB modem which cost me the best part of £100 last year! :(

At least with the router you can have your PS2 online without having to switch your PC on.

Now if only the blimmin' PS2 online shop was working...

No unfortunately it's not wireless, but you can get a good 15M of ethernet cable for about £3.60 from the same site :)

I don't think adding a wireless bridge and stuff (I'm no expert by the way!) will cost too much though...

After much trawling of the web i think ive found a complete wireless netwok solution for under £150.
I'm just moving to a new house so i'm loathed to start drilling holes in all the walls to run such a basic network.
    This should be much cooler.:D

I just read on the trial forums that we get the full version of the game when it is released.

Looking forward to getting online. We should make sure that we circulate our IDs so we know who is on and ready to play from the AV forums...

    Ok guys - be nice..

I have just received my pack all excited to use then bang!!! deflation.

I am an original BT broadband user with the Westell Modem. this has a line in from phone socket in the wall and a usb out that connects to the pc.

I have a phone line in socket for internet at the back of my pc but nothing else.

What do I need to connect up or have I just wasted £39.99 on something I cannot use.
