I switched my PS2 on this morning and when it was reading the disk it was making really loud sounds. It still worked ok but i could here it over my tv. I've had it for 3.5 years now. Is this a sign of it breaking?

If it's only done it the once the maybe not, but if it continues then it could be the lazer getting to the end of it's life, in which case it will be time to pop out and buy yourself an xbox:devil: or another ps2.

Or the disc might not have been in correctly so it wasn't spinning straight...I've had this happen in CD-ROM drives, very disturbing!

iamtheone - sorry for nitpicking, laser's spelt with an "s"...again sorry, that particular americanism sets my teeth on edge :)

If its a clicking sound its the laser guide arm (a piece of grooved plastic the runs on a worm drive), Its quite an easy fix if your comfortable opening your ps2 up.Let me know if you need more info
