My PS2 has decided to chew up all discs that aren't PS2 games (no idea why)...

For example, Vice City, The Two Towers PS2 games are fine, but if I put a ps1 game in, such as driver, it goes crazy, makes a piercing noise, and ruins the disc (same with CDs).

Any thoughts on what might be causing this, and what do people recommend I should do???

    Thanks for reading!

Are you running your PS2 on its side? I've heard anecdotal murmerings that the PS2 can damage discs if played on its side. Nothing concrete, but it might at least be worth a look.

    Hmmm..

this is just an idea but does anyone know if the PS2 uses two lasers one for DVD/DVD ROM (PS2 Games etc) and one for CD/CDROM Wavelengths ?

The reason I ask is I had a DVD player that did exactly this, turned out that when it realised the disk wasnt DVD wavelength it switched to its CD Mode and the laser mount scratched away merilly trying to read the disk, when the disk came out it looked like a scating rink for mice ! :(

Hope this helps with a possible solution

    Cheers

Thats a good point, if it is the laser, I can put Dimmy in touch with someone who repairs them for a living.

    Spoony.
