Protecting fabric from the dog

My FIL has a problem with his dog, an Alsatian. When the dog is in the estate his head touches the roof fabric which has destroyed his previous car.

I got a plastic sheet and duck taped it to the roof and surrounding trim. Unfortunately the first time the dog went in it it fell off.

Any ideas how to protect the fabric?
