Pronunciation of the word... 'woofer'?

Not quite sure what forum this should be in, but thought, this is the speaker forum! :D

My flat mate and I were having a discussion, I've always said the word woofer like 'wuff-er', but he reckons its said 'woo-fer'. Which is right? Also, does it change for American pronunciation/British pronunciation?

Cheers!

local accent will dictate how it should be pronounced ;)

a cut glass British accent would most likely use woo-fer.....whereas perhaps a Lancastrian might be more likely to go wuu-fer.....

etc

:D

me? i say wuffer.......

I've just checked with the house staff and the gardener and they agreed with me, "Woof-er"
