Yes there are some differences but I use Pronto software on my RC5000. I think most Pronto ccf's would work on both. See the "which remote" string started by giggler below re: some differences.

Well, upto a few months ago there were a few differences:-.

    RC5000
    ------
    Gold on white plastic
    Comes with charger
    No Timers
    No Beeps
    Slightly cheaper

    Pronto
    ------
    Silver on Grey plastic
    No Charger
    Timers
    Custom Beeps

Although I had no interest in the timers, I am glad I got the Pronto now.. I didn't think I would use it, but I now use timers to control the light (I bought some X-10 stuff) for security and I also have it setup to turn all my kit off at 3am.. So, I can go to bed without worrying about leaving anything on.

However, this has all changed now.. The RC5000 has had some new software released which adds new, unique features...

It still doesn't support Timers or Beeps but has some other features... However, for me, none of these are enough to swing the balance.

These are the new feature only available on the RC5000:-

    Jumps in macros
    Custom scroll button artwork
    Backwards/forwards panel memory,
Ability to shut down the Device/Macro menus
Left & Right hard buttons programmable in Macro

Apparantly, a new version of software for the Pronto is on the way, this should have other new features only for the pronto.

But in conclusion, the main difference is the 'Timers'. Marantz has said that they don't want to support this feature, so its seems that it will never appear on the RC5000.. And its such a powerfull tool too.

    I hope this helps

Well that was pretty comprehensive !

I decided on a Pronto because I preferred the colour. Gold is still a bit too seventies for me. I don't like the gold being scraped off to reveal white plastic either.
