    HI

my pronto is making a high pitch whistle when the light turns on.

I have read somewhere that this happens when the backlight is coming to the end of it's life?

Mine makes this very noise and did so since I first switched it on. I thought it was normal.

    I've had 4 Pronto's in my time..
and only one ever did it, the backlight went about 2 weeks after it started.

All LCD panels make this noise apparently. It is someting to do with an inverter and very high voltages I believe (but I don't know any more than that so don't ask).

I read a thing about it on remotecentral a while ago. Don't worry about it.

I've had mine for 2 years - it's done it since day one. I've just had to have the screen replaced, but it was an input problem and nothing to do with the noise. After the repair the backlight still makes the same noise.

As andyk has said,it's the inverter used to run the display....held close it can be irritating, but shouldn't be loud enough to be audible under most normal circumstances.

I'm sure if you read the handbook it says somewhere in there that they do this. I've had mine for a year or so - it's always done it and work sperfectly.
