Hi there, I need to source a projector for a nightclub. The situation requires a 4X3 aspect ratio, with a projected picture width of 2 metres from a throw of 4 metres. There is a high level of ambient light, as it is for the top of a large stairwell, so the machine will need to have a high lumens rating. Also, we will only be feeding the unit standard definition DVD- so don't need a 720p spec. We will simply be painting the throw wall white, and the projector will only be showing promotional stuff- so the spec can favour brightness over contrast. I guess the budget will extend to about £500.

Any suggestions of machine would be greatfully received, can even be second hand units. Also does anyone know any companies that put together weird and wonderful graphics & spacey visuals for nightclub DVDs but at sensible prices?

    Thanks Simon Baker

Thought of raiding any local uni's for art students? They'll be cheaper, possibly just beer tokens and free entry (assuming the clubs suitably funky for an art student to be seen in).

Oh, and get an old laptop with a line in, a copy of winamp and some visualisations - www.winamp.com

    Hi

    I would suggest a 2000 - 2500 ANSI XGA or SVGA (Budget)
If the unit will be in a smokey area I would definately go for DLP technology.

    - DLP have no filters to clean, or to get blocked ie no overheating
    - LCD panels need direct air cooling and will get covered in tar
    - Make sure of sealed optical block DLP unit so no contamination of the optics

Benq and Toshiba both have "pub" models ie the warranty is not voided if used in smokey environments.

There was a previous thread for Toshiba end of line units at cracking prices, URL www.toshiba.co.uk/projectors, click on summer sale.
These are mainly LCD units but hey prices start at 349 quid!
