all,

i know that CRT is pretty much an enthusiast hobby now, but my 801s has been on the for sale forum for some time now.

is there really noone who would want a good condition, fully working Barco Graphics 801s?

Having spoken to Roland, he suggests breaking it up and selling it off as spare parts. If that is the only sensible way forward, how would I break up an 801 and price it?

I am scratching my head.

thanks for any help/advice.

Chris

Hi Chris,

Hopefully you'll get some offers after this post. If not it looks like ebay - if its in good nick I'm sure it'll sell and you'd be advertising to a wider audience.

Si

HI,

Cold truth is that I think you are over priced.

I have 2 of these, one with 1600 hours and one with 3500 hours and a true BARCO NEW BLUE tube about 140 hours ago.

I would value them at £1000 in todays market to the right person which is an ever smaller group.

DONT e bay it for some time.......

there is a guy with about 15 of these (D&G mix) which are currently weekly going on sale, he will take a very low price on each one not gonna say here as I think that unfair, they are all parts only or poor tubes BUT people wanna take a chance for no money.

YES I know a good one is worth it but in truth the people who but the flea bay rubbish dont really know what they are doing or think they have a bargain and try and sell it on.....more fool them.....

In parts to be honest what are you goning to get?

G&B - £200 each maybe
red - £50 for sure 100 maybe
lens - £100 tops more like 50-75 for a def sale (I have cash waiting for these)
psu - £100
rest might sell

So you end up with a box of bits to throw away -DONT DO THAT give whats left to roland or anyone else (me)

And you will have packed and shipped to 5 different people in 6 months and still not seen your money back......

This works if you have loads to break and they are not perfect units so trouble to sell, your perfect unit should sell at the right price,

Roland's 808 sold for £1200 on the bay (I think) so how is a 801s gonna get £1350 ???

though I think the picture better on a 801s .........

Hope you sell it and these are only my opinions

What you gonna buy? or have bought?

I'm asking £600 for my 801s, not £1350. I didn't even pay that for it from Roland! :)

so by your workings for splitting it up, it sounds like I might get close to my asking price by breaking up the PJ?

If I do break up the PJ, are there any safety tips I should be aware of? It has not been powered up for at least one month now.

cheers

Chris

Out of interest chris where did the £600 price come from, is it based on any thing. ie. ebay price or past forum sales or B4 current prices?

just seems ashame to break up a working pj?

it came from the amount I paid Roland nearly 2 years ago, minus 40%. whilst 801s may well be going for much less on Ebay, it would be far too much of a hit to the wallet to let it go for those prices. so, I'm holding out for a buyer who wants a well looked after PJ, or to break it up and get a similar total amount in multiple sales.

i know, it is a shame to consider breaking it up. to be honest, i'm gutted to be selling it at all.. love the picture it generates. but the new house simply isn't big enough for it!

at least try it on ebay for £600 b4 you break it up....

ok.. i'll give it a try on ebay. thanks for all your advice.. its very much appreciated

Hi Chris,
John here who bought your screen.

How much difference is there between my Barco Data 800 and your PJ?

Guy's If you dont mind me sticking my nose in on this....the 801s was a fair improvement in both image quality and reliability over the 800 series.

James

I agree with James 100%.

the price on this 801s is also a good and fair one, I would buy it if I didnt have 2 already!

cheapest upgrade you will find.

.........go get it!

Hi John,

I have to defer to James etc here for comparisons as I only have experience of my 801s. But with the excellent screen you have (and a suitable line doubler), the 801s will not fail to impress you.

cheers

Chris

Rob, £600 is what I am looking for. A fellow member has offered to deliver it on my behalf, we would need to come to some arrangement about postage costs.

If you are serious about taking this further, then I will need to open a thread in the trading forum to stay within site rules.

Let me know if you are interested.

regards

Chris

Hi There,

I'd agree with things not selling. I have a Barco Data 800 for sale for silly money and hardly even a nibble. It even has the heavy glass lenses !

I also have a full set of spare boards and even an origional service manual.

At the moment i'm almost unsure of what to do with it at all....And any ideas of upgrading my nigh on perfect BG801s to an 808 or similar will probably not happen as looking at your atempts to sell one is not worth it.

I guess CRT's are becoming rather specialised and there apears to be a flooded market as most people seem to want small and easy...If your gonna have a dedicated room, you usualy have the cash for a better PJ and the lower end ones are just scrap !

Cya,
Lee

He obviously got fed up with selling them singly. I bought around 3 boards off him around 2 weeks ago for little more than a couple of quid each - he probably thought to save himself the effort and do a joblot.

Simon

rob, are you still interested in the PJ?

cheers

Chris

i'm willing to consider sensible offers!

I've reduced the asking price to £400 if anyone is interested. Would much prefer to see it go to a fellow forum member before trying it on ebay.

A friend picked that lot up for me. Lots of stuff in deed.

So the stuff is in Sweden. So you don't have to worry about that lot flooding the market for you in the UK. =)

If you would ship that PJ to Sweden I'm probably interested.

I could, but postage is going to be expensive. Perhaps more importantly, it's a must riskier prospect for you. I'm not so sure it's really the right thing to do. I'm not a CRT packaging expert and wouldn't like to send it only for it to get damaged in transit. Thanks though!

I ship projectors all the time.
Not afraid of the risk of shipping them. As long as I get them to a fair price I don't really care if it arrives in one pice.
The most important thing to keep in mind while shipping these beauties is adding lots of padding inside the projector protecting the tubenecks and put lots of paddin in front of the the tubefaces.
Other than that the rest can handle the trip.

I have a Barco Graphics 1208 here which took a dive from a standard height ceiling.

The aftermath of that dive?

2 broken lenses.
