Not sure if this belongs in the projector forum but here goes:

Due to my desire not to damage my beloved CRT projector tubes i.e screen burn but also wanting to have some mega sessions on my UK Xbox with a big screen I have decide to get a cheap and cheerful LCD type projector which can easily be set up and packed away as required.

What I would like to know is this. What spec should I get? Do I need one of the new Panasonic widescreen type or are all the games in a 4:3 format anyway so it would not matter as long as it has more than 480 lines. I know some of the US games are in progressive scan but would that also apply to the UK games if I obtained a Hidef pack from the states with component output?

I have a Rock+ so would I just be better off using an Svideo or component lead through the Rock and letting that do the scaling instead?

    Cheers for any help

    Darren

I suspect you'd be just as well off if not better using the rock instead of buying the HD pack.

A few gamers on this forum have been looking into this area...Museum Steve has purchased a Panny...but it does not have the DRC circuitry of the Sony V11Ht......so he is going along that route, i am the same....for the avid gameplayer....and the lack of progressive scan games in the uk means the sony seems the best way to go ( Iscan + panny was another option, though the internal circuitry of the sony is general regarded to do as good as/if not better good than IScan)
But you have an external device that is more expensive the the actual projectors!!!!. What does the Rock retail at?????
If you are just using it for games..at the moment there is a about 2 in 10 games that support 16:9 in game...though you can stretch them obviously.
    Might be better going for a 4:3 projector....sanyo pvl30????

For us mere mortals...the Sony vw11Ht is the best option....

    Best regards

Yes but the HD pack would give me component connections which are supported on the Rock and I assume would give me a better picture rather than an S-video connection. What I dont know is if the HD pack enables the PS on games that support it (if there are any that is). I am not sure how the Rock would react if it was fed a PS signal rather than an interlaced signal.

It is £3800+vat new in this country.

The reason I mentioned the Panasonic was its low price and bulb life compared with some of the other types out there. The Sanyo you mention has a 800x600 panel would this be good enough or would I be better off going for a higher resolution projector?

    cheers

the panny gives an amazing PS picture from Xbox..DOA3 is the most awesome thing I've seen visually ever, and I have a games shop..haha..
I'm dripping with sweat at the prospect of an 11HT though..

the xbox wil output a interlaced signal through the component too.
you have to tell it to output PS.

my mate has been using games machines on his barco for years with no burn problems , just take the usual precautions with brightness and contrast.

museumsteve what gameshop you got ???

with a name like that i thought it maybe retro stuff :)
