As this game is out today I'm going to close the preview thread and start a new play and help thread here.

saw this online at HMV for £27.99. If it's roughly the same in the shop, I may pick it up this weekend as the demo was really good.

but eurogamer only gave it 5/10

Agree, I picked this up today, only cost me a tenner after trading some old games in.

Enjoying it so far, the demo whetted my appetite and so far the full game hasn't let me down. The graphics are good, no slowdown or tearing on my 37" HD Lcd.

Very atmospheric and quite creepy in places, havn't got too far in yet and not tried the multiplayer but will do over the weekend. If anyone from here who has it fancies some multiplayer action, feel free to add me.

In the first game you could change difficulty at any time via the pause menu.
I used to play on Hard, then upon coming across a frustrating section, I would select Normal until I passed the section.
    Is this still possible?

TBH I don't like the multiplayer. I have yet to have a game that's lag free. I play other FPSs such as BFBC and the CODs with no problems whatsoever. The modes are generic with your classic team deathmatch, deathmatch and capture the flag modes. The other modes are just variations on sabotage (COD) and HQ modes. Using the armour online is cool though. It's a shame as it did have potential, and of course there are a number of trophies to be earned through online multiplayer. I'm not too bothered though, if I'm honest.

The single-player is worth getting the game for on it's own. I have just completed it on normal after two days solid at it. What an incredible experience. It is hands-down one of the best stories I have played in a long while and seems to round off the whole FEAR saga.

The AI are fantastic throughout, forcing you to outwit them at every opportunity, or they will punish you. They pounce on you and come from all angles to scare the living bejeebes out of you, especially the invisible frog men (just you wait and see). The armour was a great add-on and didn't feel like it was forced. It most certainly wasn't overdone either.

Graphically, this game is impressive, the lighting effects are fantastic and add an eerie edge throughout the game.

The soundtrack is creepy as hell and seems to fit with each level as you progress. The level design is great and the destructible environment is a very nice touch. Whether you want to shut off that creepy TV or just blast through walls to get to enemies, it's all very effective and real-looking. It simply blows you away on the armour levels.

Difficulty wise, normal is a challenge, so if your new to FPSs or want to do a dry run to get used to the levels, I'd pick easy on levels you are struggling to complete. I'm used to FPSs and I was fine on normal. Hard is very hard though, be warned. For one, your reflex (slow-mo) is shorter and obviously you can only take the one or two shots before you die.

I cannot recommend this game highly enough. I don't think it will beat KZ2 as the FPS game of the year, but it's definitely worth checking out if you are a fan of the series or a fan of FPS games with an added touch of horror. Oh and don't forget to turn the lights off and plug your headphones in/switch on the surround sound for that all-round creepy experience.

There are a whole host of trophies available which are very achievable. It's waited more 60/40 in favour of the single-player.

8/10 (slightly marred by the multiplayer experience unfortunately)

I agree with your review it is a very good game. Yet if you are a experienced FPS player then play it on hard. i'm doing this and i'm not really having much trouble. (currently on Lv8) If you do start to have trouble then change it to normal which can be done in game.

If you change the difficulty during the level does it affect the trophy you earn ?

What a rubbish ending. *Spoiler* ->
I was expecting to waste alma but I guess they are keeping things open for another sequal.

I really thought I collected all of the intel and reflex injectors but obviously not. Having started the game on normal and not realising you need to play on hard to get all the trophies, I guess i'll have to play it through again and search even more!

10-12 hours I think. That was exploring everything so it did take a little longer than what it should.
