While most new DVD players now come with progressive scan , I wonder if there is any need to activate this function when connected to a panasonic Viera TH-50PV30 or does the Viera has it own !

All plasmas convert to progressive scan. Whether to switch it on or off in your DVD player depends on how well the plasma does it versus how well the DVD player does it. Try both options and choose the best setting.

The PHD8 seems to have good processing, according to the review somone posted here. Does that mean that unless you're planning to splash the cash on a serious DVD player, one might as well stick with an interlaced DVD player (rather than go for the Pio 575 or something)?

Is it worth upgrading the DVD player for an upscaling one, whether or not you use prog scan?
