If progressive scan is being disabled for pal dvds on the new generation of players what's the likely hood of a mod to enable it? Seems a shame to only be able to play ntsc in this mode.

The reason why PAL progressive scan is not enabled is because there is no Macrovision protection algorythm available for it. The DVD forum (the people who steer the development of DVD) only asked for NTSC compatible Macrovision to be developed.
You're better off using a PC to get progressive scan output - especially since you already have a PC.
There will be more information coming shortly at www.progressivescan.co.uk.
I'm working on material for the site at the moment.
    Cheers

Good poi****, not so keen on using my pc for that because the pc is in the study unfortunately but having a small pc in the home cinema set up especially for playing dvds might be worth thinking about, thanks for the poi****er.
