Sony DAVS-550 DVD player to Samsung LE26R41 via Component. The 'Progressive Scan' function is greyed out in the DVD player's menu, yet both the player and the TV are 'progressive scan' compatible. Any ideas? Am I missing something obvious...?

I would really like to improve the picture which is currently fairly poor and pixellated, even via component, I am wondering whether this is due to the current interlaced output, and I am trying to set to progressive to improve.

    All constructive feedback welcome!

    Thanks in advance

I'm not sure that the DAV-S550 DVD player can do PAL progressive. I think it's NTSC only.

You could try a R1 DVD and see if that enables your progressive menu option.

I'm not convinced it will make any difference though - it's the scaling rather than the deinterlacing which is probably giving you the pixelated look

I'm not sure on the DAVS-550 but on my parents sony dvd recorder there was a little swirtch at the back that toggled the output between scart and component.
