Forgive me if I'm talking rubbish. I am looking at purchasing a Loewe Vitros 32" TV which I am told has a 15 PIN VGA (Style) input in order to accept a progressive scan image. Presumably this would be a 480p NTSC image rather than PAL (525p?). I have been told that the TV doesn't have a set of component inputs. If I try and rig this up to a Pioneer 737 Progressive Scan DVD player I can output either via Component or RGB (Over SCART). Would either of these outputs be progressive, or just one? Given this how would I connect the DVD to TV??? It appears I would need a RGB to VGA Scan Converter. There are a number of these available for HTPC and HDTV's that go the OTHER way, but none that I can find to go FROM Component to VGA.
    Any ideas?

    Jon

    Jon,

I don't know whether the Pioneer outputs progressive using RGB. If it does then you just need a lead from the RGB+SYNC outputs to the VGA(HD-15 socket). There are specialist companies that make such leads.

If it doesn't then I suspect that the standard convertor you'll be after will cost more than the DVD player itself. Look for models by Extron and Kramer I think.

Richard A can probably give more info on that topic.

From what I can make out a cable will not suffice, but I will need a video transcoder. I have now found 2 (finally) that seems to go from Component to VGA. The first from KeyDigital http://www.keydigital.com/cgi-bin/detail.cfm?action=detail&ProductID=91 is switchable for 480p and 720p.Audio Authority are soon to release one see http://www.audioauthority.com/9a62det.html
This appears like it will do the job for around £150 by the time I get it to the UK.
So does it look like I have a solution?
    Thanks
    Jon

Progressive scan from the Pioneer 737 and most other progressive DVD players is from the component YUV output only. The Loewe TVs may have component but interlaced only. Progressive input is for VGA RGB + sync.

The two devices you pointed to above seem to solve your problem, but what's the quality like? I don't know.

If you buy one I would be interested to hear about your experience with it.
