A Samsung DVDP401 Progressive Scan DVD Player for only £130
It even has Dolby Digital® and DTS™ Optical & Coaxial Outputs and even Component Video Outputs.

There must be some catch, and unfortunetly there is.
Its only available in the US

It would HAVE to have component outputs since this is how progressive scan is carried (in all(?) examples of progressive scan DVD players). Interesting that it is so cheap, but doesn't alter my opinion that progressive scan DVD players are a waste of time.

No mention of 2:3 recognition so I'd expect it's de-interlacing to be very poor resulting in lots of artefacts. Much better solution would be a Skyworth for a few quid more that will do 2:3 and 2:2 and also has DCDi for great video based material de-interlacing....

If you take a trip over to
    http://www.dcdi-video.com/products/dvd/index.html

then follow the samsung link to dvd-p708 which looks very similar
to the 401, you will find that the said progressive player does use the faroudja/sage chip, which is top notch de-interlacing.
