    Hi,

I've looked through the forum for details on CRT Prog Scan flicker and have found some conflicting views. I have a Toshiba 36zp48p and RDXS-32 DVD recorder.

If I enable Prog Scan (either directly on the TV or on the XS32) then there is noticable flicker, especially on lighter scenes. The actual quality of the picture itself is great but the flicker is bad enough for me to leave the prog scan off. I am going to query this with Toshiba but wondered whether this is normal with Prog Scan on CRT screens? Any other 36ZP48 owners who have tried this (enable Progressive on the TV and input will be displayed using Prog Scan).

I am no expert on the AV stuff and so would appreciate some input.

    Thanks,

    Andy

I have the 36zp46 which is the sam but without the Dolby.

From what I underdtand, if your dvd player supports Progressive Scanning output and has Component Video output capability you should be able to get perfect picture quality by using componet video cable to connect...

I too am new to all the AV opportunities but have had to speak with a few specialist audio shops to get my set up right (although, since my dvd does not have CV output I am using high quality RGB scart instead).

I hope this helps, and if anyone can shed a more expert light please do so...

Andy - one thing that I forgot to mention - Whilst Active, Normal and 100Hz all scan at 100Hz, Progresssive scans at 50 horizontally and equiv to 100Hz vertically.

I too have noticed this flicker on normal TV.

For what it's worth Tosh reckon that Progressive Scan is supposed to be ideal for dvd and that either Active or Natural shoudl be best for noral TV. Pls see the link below for their explanation:

    Hi Bernie,

    Thanks for the replies.

I have it all connected up via Component, I'll speak to someone at Toshiba and see if I can sort it out.

    Cheers,

    Andy
