Thinking of getting the Philips DVD Q50 over the Tosh Se210.
Anyone got any experiences, thoughts, news on it's Prog scan capapbilities?

"Philips makes your movies come alive with the DVDQ50AT DVD Player with Faroudja FLI2200 state-of-the-art Progressive Scan Technology. Its digitally sharp display has pixel by pixel film and video based motion interpolation with frame x frame 3:2 and 2:2 pulldown compensation. It has the ability to playback DVD Video, Video CD, and Audio CD, CD-R/RWs. In addition, this technologically advanced DVD Player is MP3-CD compatible. Its 5-disc Resume feature allows viewers to pick-up where they left off on their 5 most recently viewed DVD titles. For sharper, clearer sound it has Optical and Coaxial Audio Outputs with integrated AC-3 and DTS decoding."

    Thanks

I wanted one of these but if you nip across to AVSforums you'll find reports of good picture but problems with freezing, picture positioning etc. However a firmware was released to improve this.

Good value but to the best of my knowledge there is NO PAL progressive.

    Aus K,

One of the UK magazines (What Video ..I think) did a review of the Q50 and there was no mention of progressive output. There was no indication of the DCDI chip on the facia of the player either.

You might need to get one from Hong Kong.

That's right, there is no progressive output on Region 2 machines, because these are not NTSC countries. So, no Faroujda de-interlacing on the Q50 for us. There is quite a bit of discussion on this topic on avsforum.com. As mentioned before, you can purchase one direct from Hong Kong, avshop.com.hk or hivizone.com.
There is PAL progressive, it just isn't an official(or legal) standard. Both the Silicon Image503/4 and Faroujda Fli2200 chips do a very good job at de-interlacing PAL.
