Don’t think there’s much gain to be had, if any, with the different plugs available, it’s more to do with tidying-up the connections / ease of use, good if you find yourself often moving your stuff around. I’m sure somebody more technical will come along and correct me if I’m wrong!

Saying that, I picked-up some Vivanco 4mm plugs, only to then notice that my Receiver, Pioneer AX5Ai, has some black plastic stoppers that prevent me from using the plugs, haven't had the push to see if they're removable yet , so you might want to check your gear before buying.

I have used Gale Gold-plated banana plugs which are very similiar and although I found it gave good contact to the cable, after a while the cable still oxidises.

The cables themselves on bananas normally attach in from the side of the banana and are clipped or the thumb-screw is turned to tighten the cable in.

I would highly recommend the QED Airloc banana plugs which are attached in your local Hifi shop using a special tool which seals the cable airtight into the plug, meaning a better contact, better looking solution that won't give you oxidised cables after a couple of months.

Airloc plugs are normally £5 each fitted from your local hifi retailer, though if you bought cable online, you could get them for £4.25 each fitted on the cabling you order.

    Check out

    for more info

for a pic of an airloc'd cable

If that is out of your price range, then I can say profigold are good at the price. Have my car auio cabling all profigold..

    Hope this helps,

    Dan.

You should try to remove plugs on your pioneer
    My denon was also covered

Just use some strong thing blade knife or screwin some small wood screw and pull it out with plyers

Good price on those banana plugs though. pretty impressed. Ones pictured on the last post seem pretty much identical to the Gale ones I had @ twice the price.

Still love my Airlocs too and they'll prevent the cable deteriating over time, better contact etc

, but good price on the banana's. Think I'll pick up some anyways as they'll no doubt come in handy at some point
