    Hi

I tried to go the integrated amp route but couldn't get what I wanted

So I decided to go the power & processor route and have just purchased ex dem Parasound 2205 power 5 X 200 THX Ultra power amp to provide the grunt

As a interim processor solution (until I upgrade to Tag AV32) can I use the Parasound to drive the speakers (M&K 750 selects) and use say receiver or amp like a Yamaha 630RDS to decode the sound - that way I can still get PL2 etc

If that won't work or will sound CR*P can somebody recomend a good cheap processor to decode Dolby Digital and DTS

    Many thanks

Its a fairly common thing to add power amps to existing integrated amps/receivers. Just make sure the integrated amp/receiver has Pre-Outs for all the main channels FL,C,FR,SL,SR,SUB etc, some don´t!

Unfortunately there is no such thing ... but you can use an integrated AV amp/receiver instead like you said.

Ok guys that settles it, I'm going for a cheap receiver / Parsound solution until I can afford a Tag

What would you recomend for movies and music out of :
    Yamaha 630 RDS, Marant 5200, Denon 1802

    Many thanks

Normally I´d say Denon but the 1802 only has Pre-Outs for the front left, right, centre & sub, so forget that. Means your down to a choice between Yamaha & Marantz.

Probably go for the Marantz myself, given the choice, though the newer 5300 instead.

The Yamaha is still a very good receiver as well though.:)

    Cheers

    Hi Jase

    Thanks for that

Whats the difference between the Marants 5200 and 5300
The reason being that my missus (bless her) started me off on this mad path of trying to install a home AV setup by buying me a rather rubbish reciever from Richer sounds. Which I am going to take back but can only get a credit note or exchange in return - and they don't stock the 5300. I need to spend the money and appart from a receiver I can't think what else to use the money for.

    Many thanks

The 5300 has a new processor with true DTS Discrete & Matrix 6.1 decoders, slightly more power (though thats not really an issue if you use the Parasound), also has SRS Circle Surround II and true Dolby Digital EX decoding. These seem to be the main differences, its possible there are others.
