I have just bought a Musical Fidelity A3.2 amp to use with my Yamaha E800. I connect the CD and Tuner to the MF amp for best sound quality, but want to be able to use the subwoofer connected to the E800. So I connected the Tape out of the MF to the CD in on the E800 and when both are switched on the subwoofer operates as expected. However when the E800 is on standby the CD sound quality sounds awful - worse than "boom-box". Switching the E800 on, even with an unconnected input selected cuts the interference sound. The E800 is obviously connected to the MF for front channel sound. This puzzles me because it should be no different than connecting a tape recorder which may be switched off. My subwoofer only has 1 line level input so can't be connected direct to the amp.

Can you connect the sub via high-level (speaker cables)?

No. I'd mention the model I have but it would likely provoke a long discussion of why REL's are better ;) For connection options they probably are.

My only option is line level.

    Hi

Could you not use a Y splitter/adaptor on the sub and run a cable from the MF amp to the sub??

That's a poosibility, but I want to keep it connected to the processor for home cinema use. I've now connected the MF Tape Out to the E800 Tape and the problem has gone away. Still don't understand why it didn't work the other way though.

Wouldnt be something to do with the cd input being line level and the tape being another?? Phono or something, just a wild stab in the dark, could be totally wrong!!

Except the 'Phono' input all other inputs (CD, tuner, AUX, Tape etc.) are line level.

I guess there must have been some feedback loop earlier, keep in mind that tape outputs are fixed level, and if there is no REC OUT selector, will output anything feed into the unit.
So if you connect two tape loops (in to out and out to in) you create such a loop ...
