probs with move from ancient SkyBox to Icecrypt

Hi
I'm in the South of France and until now I've been using a prehistoric Thomson Sky Digibox pointing at Astra2 (I think) and it's always worked a treat. The remote died on me so I decided to get a new cheapo freesat box (Icecrypt S1500c) when I was back in the UK at the weekend. When I got back here I plugged it in, set it up and ran the search for available stations and that worked fine except that it didn't find BBC 4 or CBBC !

Just to check, I plugged the old digibox back in and it found those 2 channels just fine.

So .... I'm mystified : is there any technical reason why the Icecrypt box pointing at the same satellite as the Digibox won't find the same stations ?

Thanks

This is not a Freesat receiver but a generic. You'll need to ensure it has the correct TP details for those channels (unless blind scanning) and to scan when they are broadcasting. You can check the TP details at KingOfSat.

Hi
I decided to get a new cheapo freesat box
And yet you didn't.
Here are the current ones and there are plenty of previous models still available:
Digital TV Set Top Boxes | SD and HD Satellite Receivers - freesat

BBC4 and CBeebies are on 10773.00 H 45 UK DVB-S QPSK 22000 5/6
BBC3 and CBBC are on 10818.00 V 48 UK DVB-S QPSK 22000 5/6
In each case the first takes over from the second at 7pm.
Page 30 of the manual explains the choice of scanning methods, so you could do blind search as kevkbuk said.

That's OK.
Freesat is the name of a company of which the main purpose is to provide a specific EPG for channels whose broadcasters pay to be included in it.
That's available only on the machines that the company authorises.
A used Sky machine would probably have been a better choice still, than the FS.
Let us know how yours goes.

Hi

OK, so for a while I was tearing my hair out trying to understand why I could pick up CBBC on my old Sky DigiBox but NOT on the IceCrypt...

So I tried a few different combinations of service search parameters and the one that worked was doing a "blind" search (whatever that may be) on the 28.2E satellite - bingo, loads more channels !!

Thanks for your help

cheers

That's OK.
It means that it looks for all the channels it can find, rather than looking only for those on a list that's built into it.
