Problems with Samsung Monitor

I Have a Samsung 24" Syncmaster 2494HS, earlier this evening I was using it fine, and went to get a drink came back and the display was black as if it had no signal or was off.

I checked the input and the monitor(connected via DVI) would come on for 2 seconds then go black everytime I turn it off and on. I tried the HDMI input on the monitor using my PS3 and it does the same thing, the monitor is receiving input as I can here the sound play through the monitors speakers from a game.

Has anybody every had this before and can help?

Thanks

have a good look at the monitor from close in and different angles, if you can still faintly see the picture then it sounds like the backlight (or it's inverter) has gone.
