I have a Phillips DVDR 880, bought about a year ago. It records fine but increasingly is proving unable to read new DVDs. I have cleaned the lens which makes no difference to its inability to read most DVDs. It is, however, able to read its own recorded DVDs and a lot of my old pre-recorded DVDs, but is not able to read any of my recent Xmas DVD presents.

    Any suggestions.

These models are very problematic. Seek an upto date firmware if possible but otherwise get it repaired if under warranty. Try to exaggerate any problems and see if you can convince them to replace it with a later model which I believe Philips have done for some owners.
