I've just got my new Panasonic AE700 delivered from Englang to Ireland

I Bought it from a proper store (as in they have walk in shops) on E-Bay

I've just got it out of the box and I've got 2 problems

    1. I noticed the Lamp Runtime is at 1073 Hrs!
I've double checked the link on E-Bay and Yes its advertised as New

    2. There's a burning smell coming from the Fan

It has a one year warrantyand I'm going to give the store a ring, but i just need to confirm
    1. if this is the actual amount of Lamp time already used
    and
    2. if this is normal for a fan straight out of the box

any advice from you guys would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers
    D

    No on both counts!

I'd get a refund and report them to E Bay!

Either they've made a genuine cock-up or they are trying it on big-style. Either way this situation stinks more than your fan and you should name & shame if you aren't completely satisfied with the outcome. How much did you pay btw?...PJ

I'd maybe also post the link so we can get an idea if anyone else on here has dealt with this company.

I Got it for £820 , £865 inc delivery to ireland. It was a great deal, and as I said , it was stated as new.

I'm not going to name and shame just yet, I'll give them a chance to explain. Maybe it was a misprint and it was supposed to be second hand.
I did notice that it hadn't got the original seal on it, it had been resealed in a different type of Panasonic tape, but I thought it was like that so they could but the invoice in the box.

I think They are fairly well know store as I they have ads in all the LCD\Plasma\Home Cinema magazines

Do you think i should just cut my losses and get a full refund or give them another chance ?

If it has Panasonic tape on it is likely a refurb unit.

Did it have "as new" in the description, or just "new"? If it's the former then it's going to be refurbished / second hand.

Sorry Guys, I'll clear this up. On E-Bay, It was stated as "Condition: New"

But it does look like a refurbished unit, maybe it was sent out my mistake.

I've taken down the Serial code, and i also noticed it had "September 2004" on the base

    It smells of burning. Refund!

It has >1000hrs. That's not new, as new, or anything like new in my opinion....

I've just floggted an AE300 on E bay and there are a few that have come on this week that have copied my advert and even the photo's of it sat on the box in my living room! Cheeky sods!

    Be careful out there!

hey, copying text or even images is not such a big deal! your picture was of the rear showing the connections available, a perfectly good photo I might add, and the text was just of the link to the review and of the spec. Hardly suspect if its the same model ?!? cheeky?!? if you say so.. But I say its just making my life easier to list the item.

I agree that there are a lot of dodgy dealings going on in eBay and have been burned myself with items listed in better condition then they really are or by people getting friends, 2nd accounts to boost the end sale. But this is why they have the ratings score and most people are sensible/honest enough to trade with each other.

    :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I wouldnt normally buy anything on E-Bay, especially something so expensive. When I saw it was a store I sent them some mails to see if they'll deliver to Ireland. I've also made a couple of phone calls to their customer service dept. to sort out delivery.
They seem to have an alright setup so hopefully they'll sort me out.

Along with giving them a ring, I'm going to send them a mail with a photo I took of the Lamp runtime display, the E-bay Link and maybe even the link to this thread.

Yeah, sorry about not getting back , was busy trying to get it all sorted

Well the store was Crampton and Moore in Sheffield and here's the E-Bay link
    http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5816578457&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:IE:31

I Rang their customer service line on Tuesday Morning to let them know the story and asked if I could speak to someone about it, the guy on the phone said "yes, just hang on a minute"
About a minute later he came back on and said "we won't have any more in until Monday". There was no apology, no explaination about the whole thing, I even asked him how this had happened when the product was supposed to be new?, but he couldnt answer that. I told him that I was sending it back and I wanted a Full refund.

I sent it by express courier and they got it yesterday, they said they would refund me the cost of the courier also. At this stage another guy got on the phone to ask me if I was sure I wanted a refund and not just get a new one sent out, but I wasn't having any of it.

So Anyway, in the meantime, I got a bit impatient and done something I should have done in the first place. As soon I knew they were going to refund me the money on Tuesday, I went and baught another one from Komplett for $1,450 (Around £986 Sterling) including next day delivery, which arrived yesterday

I Fired it up last night and it was Fab,

    thanks for all the advice
    D
