    Hi there

I wondered if any of the other Arcam DV88+ plus are having the same problem I am....

It only happens on CD playback... On occasional CD's the player pauses for half a sec or so, it happens typically 10 seconds into a new track of music. What's weird is that it's not repeatable, ie, it doesn't happen at exactly the same place when the track is played again, but certain CD's seem much worse than others. On Pink's Mizunderstood it happens on every track.

I'm not really techie at all but it seems like a buffering problem... that a digital buffer has filled up and it has to take a breath in order to refill it. Does that make any sense to the techie's out there?

The same doesn't happen on DVD at all, occcasional I get a very slight pause, but only once per disk and I assume that was a layer change.

    Thanks

    Sharon.

PS. And before you say it... Yes I know maybe the player is objecting to playing Pink! I do like proper musi too, as well as well produced starlet trash pop!!

I've been having the same problem, but not phoned arcam about it yet. I've jsut upgraded to the .34 firmware and dont think its happened since (though thats only about a week! - so it may be coincidence).

Have u updated to the latest drive firmware ? for LT drives (which I think are in all new DV88+) its LT76.

I used it and it sorted out pausing and stuttering on my Minority Report DVD. ( Basically the film was unwatchable and then locked the machine up... once the updated firmware was installed.. played fine with zero problems).

Not played much music on it recently but not noticed a problem..

Thanks I'll try updating the firmware. Haven't updated the firmware since I got it in October/November last year.

Is it downloadable to from their website (can't find it) or do I have to contact Arcam to get a CD-ROM with it on?

    Sharon,

I'm currently on my second dv88+ still having problems. Arcam tech support already have one my dvd's for the last couple of weeks because it wont play. Another CD wont play past track 35 of a 47 track disc and certain CD/DVD track still cause the player to make a vibrating noise.

All this and I'm ruuning latest software & firmware!

Will be chasing up tech support tomorrow over none returned call.

But it is very good picture!

    cheers

    All

This problem with CD playback is something I discovered a while back. I have been working with Arcam support for a while to resolve the issue. They believe that they have fixed the issue and it will be patched in the next software release.

I still recommend that you contact Arcam support though.

My DV88+ is also back at Arcam with the CD replay vibration issue. I even sent them my CD's that were the problem. At least I'm not alone and thinking I was going mad!!

Arcam support, told me today that the vibration issue is a none problem with the differences in the actual cd centre hole sizes that cause this vibration, but they are working on it and it should n't cause a problem with the player.

    Cheers

I have to say that it's worrying that a large % of higher end DVD players you buy always tend to have some kind of bug or issue.

The DVD88Plus is on my purchase list (and to be fair - will probably stay on it) - but you just shouldn't expect it at these prices...

Having said that (and this don't make it right) if you did a search on the Denon 3800 - you'd find a whole heap of bugs and issues too.

I guess the only comforting thing is that ARCAM Customer / Tech Support are supposed to be some of the best around. Ohh, and the fact that the picture quality and sound quality of the DV88Plus is awesome!

    Still worries me though....

    Tim:rolleyes:

    Tim,

I agree in an ideal world all discs should play, especially on £1000 players, but as you say just look at the denon 3800 problem threads not to mention denon dvd player problems.

The dv88+ is my first arcam and I have too say even with minor issues it is a great product, but more to the point arcam support seem to be on top of things ie. there will be a new software release in a few weeks to correct my dts disc that wont play currently. Now I can't see other companies like denon offering that sort of customer services!

    cheers

    Gary

Ps. hope the vibration problems can be resolved soon!

Garyc, My Arcam 8SE CD player had exactly the problem you describe with your DVD player. Arcam support recommended a new laser mechanism. As it was out of warranty I took it to Practical Hi-Fi in Manchester who said that they had seen this problem more than once on Arcam equipment - all it needed was some extra weight to be added to the laser mechanism - cost about £ 35 all in and it has been fine ever since.

    Matt,

Roy Orbison “Black & White Night” dts disc.

    Bling,

interesting comment about the laser weight, the wife is not very impressed with the vibration noise especially hard to explain when the 4 year old sony plays every disc without problems!

Will be nice to have this issue resolved ASAP by what every means

    well, yes and no!

finally met and chatted to the arcam technical bods at the bristol show, with regards to the dvd (roy O), still trying to get it to play but it is turning out to be a hard disc to crack and they want to keep it a while longer!!

CD that only plays 37 or 47 tracks and has bad vibration problems is yet to be looked at in any detail.

    Hi all

Just thought you'd like to know that I received the CD-ROM update for the Dv88+ this weekend and thought you'd all like to know that as far as I can see this has eliminated my problems. In fact it seems to me that the player actually sounds better as well (has there been some other aspects updated at the same time).

Oh, and true to everybodies else word, Aracm support proved to be superb. Thanks guys.

I will let you know which version which of the software it is when I get home tonight. Providing I can find whereabouts in the DV88+ menu's it tells me - I am pretty dumb when it comes to these things....

It is displayed when you first power on the player ( when your TV is already on) for about 2 seconds.
Failing that, press stop (in case you have a disc in the player) the 4,7,9,2 on your keypads remote. This will bring up a hidden menu, where you can see software version. Highlight this, press Ok and voila.

BTW you can upgrade the firmware on the drive as well.. I have LT76 which helped immensely with minority report R2 which just stuttered and paused when playing.

    Hi Matt,
The problems on your Minority Report disc were more than likely sorted out by player software. The firware upgrade LT76 was solely for the purpose of getting a copyright protected Celion Dione CD to play. Along with Arcam I would strongly advise not to upgrade to LT 76 unless you have a very specific problem relating to this disc. Only upgrade if you have an issue, anybody who is using a DV88+ with 1.8.34.0/LT75 and having no problems, should leave it that way unless they have a specific issue.
Another thing to keep in mind is to hold on to any upgade disc's you have, so that if you find you have any problems with a newer software, you can reinstall the older version which may have worked better, in case of problems.
    Best wishes,

    Squad 701.

Ok.. Thanks for that.. but it really did fix it..

I had the drive replaced by Arcam as it was misbehaving and when I got it back from them it was on LT75. I tried playing minority report and it basically stuttered and paused for the first couple of minutes and then locked up the player. I was also getting freezing on Toy Story as well..

So as a last ditch attempt I re-applied the LT76 disc I had.. and hey presto it sorted out all my probs (the player software was already at 34)

Thanks for the advice :) (and honestly I do no own the Celine Dion disc !!)

    Matt
