I bought the new Comic Strip DVD box yesterday from my local Tesco, and
popped disc 1 into the player in the evening to watch "Five Go Mad In
Dorset". As the player (Denon 3910) spun the disc up as part of the
loading procedure, the player started making a horrible loud buzzing noise
and vibrating, which only stopped when I ejected the disc. Tried again
    - same thing happened. Tried disc 2 in the set - worked with no
problem. Tried disc 1 on my Panasonic portable, and I could feel the
player vibrating violently while the disc spun - again, the player was
fine with disc 2. Ho-hum, thinks I, duff disc - possibly the hole not
    quite in the centre.

Took the set back to Tesco and got a replacement this morning, and that
one is no better. Of the 4 discs from it I tried, 3 cause this very
nasty vibration on two players I've tried them on. Other discs seem to
be fine - it just seems to be some of the discs in this set that cause
the problem, but it is really not good.

Has anyone else had problems like this with this set? Have I just been
*really* unlucky and got 2 bad sets - is it worth trying another
exchange, or shall I just get my money back on the grounds that they
    all do this?

I'll be interested in any responses as I have this box set on my Christmas list.

Well, I've just had another exchange at a different branch of Tesco - same problem. It isn't always on the same discs, but one or more discs in each set cause my 3910 to feel as if it is shaking itself apart. (For the record, I've got around 250 discs in my collection, and it doesn't do this with any of the others.)

I think this lot are going back for a refund, cos I don't have the patience to keep going through new boxes til I find one that works. Shame...

I've managed to watch a couple of episodes on each disc. No problems here.

    Using an Arcam FMJ 27

I've not tried disc 1 yet, but have had no problems with any of the other discs I've played so far. I'll try and remember to watch the first disc in the morning and report back.

Just tried it on a second Denon 3910, and it has exactly the same vibration problems - there is definitely something not too good about the pressing on these discs, and the resulting vibration seems to hit a resonant frequency on the 3910. It also makes both my portable and my laptop drive vibrate noticeably.

Back to Tesco at lunchtime for a refund... :-(

Just tried disc 1 on my Pioneer 565 and there's no problem at all with it. I bought mine from Play, I wonder if it's worth you trying a different source to Tesco ?

I just took my copy back to Tesco, and as soon as they saw what I was holding, they reached for the refund pad. According to the staff on the desk, they've given out more copies in exchange for faulty ones than they have sold in the first place, and are withdrawing them from sale, at least in that branch.

So there is definitely a duff batch out there - may just be confined to Tesco.
