    Hi all
Sorry to sound like mr thicky but i am trying to archive my vhs tapes to dvd.
I have a scart to svhs lead connected to the av3 socket on the front of my
    Panasonic eh50.
When i play back the tape it comes through in black and white.
This also happens when i connect the vcr straight into the svhs socket on my tv.

Have i got the incorrect cable ?
Is there a compatability problem with my VCR ?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

Is your video SVHS and if so is it setup to output an svideo signal?

The VCR is capable of playing back svhs tapes but not recording in svhs.
All of my tapes are standard vhs PAL.

I am not aware of an option on the VCR to play back svhs.
I assumed that it did it automatically.

    Is that the problem ?
Is it because the tapes are not svhs?

I think my old Panasonic vcr could play back SVHS videos as well, but at normal VHS resolution and it only output a composite signal. My JVC vcr will record and playback SVHS and although 99% of my videos are just normal VHS it will output an svideo signal (via menu option) to my DVD recorder.

So I think unless your vcr has an option to output an svideo signal you won't be able to use a scart to svideo connection.
