Have a problem in that I was recording a scene in Long play mode onto a Mini DV cassette that already had a recording on it, again by the same camcorder ,but in Short/Standard play mode.
However when I saw the playback, about 10 seconds of the beginning of all three recording clips have not been recorded. After that its crackly for a few seconds and only then do things become ok.
Any idea whether I can get the data retrieved, because these are my training videos and essential.
    Any help appreciated.Thanks.

In theory, transistion of SP_LP only shows as a minor glitch, yours appear to be a tape path problem, in fact, recording over a previous recording be it be SP or LP, actually improves edit point, so if you are getting 10 secs of blank then scratchy audio sounds like pinch roller or tape path problem
